Union Dues/Fees

UNION DUES/FEES

The Union’s dues deduction procedures are set by the International Constitution, the Local 705 By Laws and the Rules which were approved by the Local 705 Executive Board. These govern the day to day operation of the dues department.

  1. When a new person is hired by and employer who has a collective bargaining agreement with Local 705, and who has never been a Teamster before, their dues and initiation fee and assessments, where appropriate, are effective the month following the month the person begins work.
  2. If you have been a member of Local 705 or another Teamster Local in the past, you may or may not owe a re-initiation fee and may or may not owe back dues. There may also be a transfer fee to move your membership from another Local Union.  In any case,  you will owe dues from the month you start to work.
  3. Your dues obligation follows you if you change employers. If you are not current, and move jobs within the Local you take your balance with you. If you are off work or if the company does not withhold dues you are still responsible to make the payment. Some employers will not deduct back dues. If your employer does not deduct back dues you are still responsible to keep you dues current.
  4. UPS (Brown) has special dues deduction process which has been agreed to by the Union and the Company. These rules are included in the 2008 contract on page 178.

Any specific questions regarding your dues may be directed to the Union Dues Department on 312-738-2800 or you may email your questions with our contact form.
